How to Track Whether AI Engines Mention Your Brand
You can check a few prompts by hand today. To know whether your brand is gaining or losing, you need a fixed prompt set, repeat runs on every engine and a record of which pages the engines cite. This page explains the method and what we deliver each month.
Check by hand first
- Write ten prompts a buyer would ask without using your brand name.
- Run each on ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot in a fresh session.
- Record whether you are named, where, and which sources the answer cites.
- Repeat a week later. Answers change, so one run proves little.
Our step-by-step guide covers this in detail.
What a monthly tracking report measures
| Measure | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Mention rate | The share of answers that name your brand on prompts without your brand name |
| Competitor mention rate | The same measure for each named competitor |
| Position | Where your brand sits when the answer lists several |
| Cited pages | Which URLs the engines cite, split into your pages and everyone else's |
| Engine spread | Which of the six engines names you least |
| Movement | Prompts gained and lost since the last run |
Why a fixed prompt set matters
If the prompt list changes each month, the trend line tells you nothing. We freeze the set, add new prompts as a separate group and report the two apart. A change in rate then reflects a change in the engines or your pages.
How we run it
We run the prompts on six engines using Velivo One AEO, log every cited URL and group the sources by owner. The method follows our published methodology.
What you receive each month
- Mention rate for you and each competitor, by engine.
- The prompts you gained and lost.
- The pages engines cite where you are absent.
- A written list of page changes for the next month.
